The stork will soon be delivering a sweet baby girl or bouncing baby boy to the proud parents so why not choose a stork baby shower theme for your baby shower? A stork themed shower is appropriate whether Mom is expecting a boy or girl so it is an excellent choice (especially when Mom doesn't know what she is expecting). And fortunately, retailers have all sorts of shower supplies such as tableware, decorations, party favors, and invitations with a stork theme.
In this article, I've put together my tips and ideas for adding a sprinkling of stork to everything at the baby shower. Enjoy and please feel free to share your comments or advice in the guest book near the bottom of this article.
The super cute invitation to the right features a blue stork holding a bundle of joy in the background. It features a vellum overlay that is printed with all of the shower details such as the location, time, date and RSVP information. You can also purchase this stork baby shower invitation in a pink color scheme from All About Gifts & Baskets.
Several other companies such as Tiny Prints sell custom baby shower invitations as well. Another invite option is to purchase cards where you just write the shower details on the inside... this option can be a bit more affordable, but beware that it will take lots of time if you are inviting many people to the shower.
The final option is to create your own invitations either on the computer using clip art with a stork theme or by utilizing scrap-booking stickers and card stock that you may already have on hand if you are the crafty sort.
When it comes to shower decorations, I usually like to start with the tableware because all of the other stuff can be themed around the color scheme of the plates, napkins, cups, tablecover, etc. The stork themed tableware shown in the photograph was available from Party Pail, but it has been discontinued. As you can see, it features a lovely sunny yellow background with pink and blue accents making a good choice for a baby boy or baby girl shower. For this color scheme, you could use yellow, pink and blue streamers and balloons throughout the party area.
Decorate the walls with cardboard stork cut-outs, foil-shaped stork balloons, and stork-shaped light strings. A personalized baby shower banner that is customized with Mom's name and a stork motif would look great over the gift or buffet table. Don't forget to buy or make a stork themed diaper cake that features a plush stork holding a baby sitting atop it.

Beyond creating a stork-themed cake or set of cupcakes, I have only a few ideas for creating stork-themed food. Instead, I suggest using the standard baby shower fare such as finger sandwiches, jello salads, a baked potato or taco bar, fruit and veggie trays, cheese and crackers, etc. Pick your favorite year-round appetizer recipes and serve them on baby-themed platters and trays.
You can also use a stork or even an egg-shaped baby cookie cutter favor to give the sandwiches, cheese, cookies and jello jigglers a fun shape to match the party theme. You could also put out some nuts or trail mix with a little tent card that says "Don't Feed The Storks" or something clever along those lines.
Storks lend themselves well to baby shower themes and many planners choose either a pink, blue, or neutral yellow stork theme to carry through the entire baby shower. Above you can see several stork cake ideas and mousses from Wilton.
Classic baby shower games are your best bet for a stork-themed baby shower. Here are some of my favorites...
How Big is Mommy's Tummy Game - This is one funny shower game and you'll be amazed at just how clueless people are about how big Mommy is getting. Before the shower, buy a bunch of cheap toilet paper rolls. When you are ready to play the game, send around the rolls of toilet paper and have the guests each tear off the amount of toilet paper that matches the circumference around mommy's tummy perfectly. Have the expectant Mommy stand up in the middle of the room. Then have each guests wrap their toilet paper around Mom's mid-section to see who is closest to the right size to determine the winner.
Draw Baby's Face - This is another game that will have your guests laughing out loud. Prior to the shower, buy some cheap round white paper plates and some crayons. When you are ready to play, give each guest a plate and a crayon. Tell them to put the plate on top their head and ask them to draw baby's face on the plate. Give them 1 minute to draw a face. At the end of the time, let mommy choose who drew the face that will look most like her baby.
Personalized chocolate bar baby shower favors are a very popular choice for baby showers because you can add two lines of custom text to either a pink or blue wrapper. The back of the wrapper has some clever baby ingredients which will have guests smiling too. Square candle favors with a glitter stork design are reasonably priced from just $1 and up. And finally, one of my favorites is the Special Delivery stork favors which has a little drawer that holds 3 scented sachets that guests can use in their dresser or wardrobe drawers. It is available in both pink and blue. Find the sachets and other baby shower soap favors at All About Gifts & Baskets.
Other stork-themed baby shower favors not shown here include personalized lip balms, body butters or hand creams, personalized mint tins, and travel candles.
A plush stork holding a baby girl or baby boy takes center stage on all of these gifts that could do double-duty as the centerpiece at the shower too! The adorable stork is wearing a little cap that reads 'Special Delivery'. Whether you choose gift baskets that include items with a stork applique, a welcome wagon full of baby essentials like blankets and hand print kits, or a diaper cake, Mom and Dad will be thrilled with any of these unique gifts!
