Over the years, I have found it difficult to come up with great ideas for graduation gifts so I surveyed a few high school and college graduates to see what they really would have loved to receive (besides money of course).
What I found was an amazing list of travel-themed, technologically advanced, and time-saving gift ideas. I am sharing that list in this post and I hope that you find it as useful and enlightening as I have!
This dual function watch allows the wearer to control their i-pod from their wrist and it displays the time.

What college bound student couldn't use a vacuum that picks up on its own?
Dirt Detect: Roomba actually detects dirty areas and stays cleaning until the dirt is gone. Patented cleaning system-roomba' powerful vacuum and counter rotating brushes reach deep into your carpet to remove dirt, dust and pet hair. Bagless bin-no bags to replace; roomba's bagless bin is easy to empty and holds more dirt than ever. Max mode-use max mode to clean multiple rooms in a single cleaning cycle.
If they are graduating from high school, this would be a great addition to their dorm room. Every student needs a break so giving them a great spot to sit while playing some WII or Playstation makes this a gift they will love. If they are graduating from college, they'll need furniture in their new apartment or home basement so this gift is a winner for them too.

Back when I was in college, we spent hours playing the board game Risk and Tetris on the Nintendo 64. It was a great way to de-stress and to have fun with friends on the weekends.
I love playing Wii so one can only imagine how much a 18 - 25 year old would love one!
This is what my parents got me when I graduated high school and I used it for about 10 years. One of the best presents that I ever got! Of course, that might be because I'm addicted to traveling.
The Samsonite brand is known for high-quality luggage that lasts a long time. My last set was with me for about 10 years!
It's two bags in one! Use it as a wheeled duffel or wear it like a backpack. Hidden padded backpack straps are stored behind the zippered padded back panel. Main compartment with U-shaped opening. Inline, skate-style wheels with corner protectors and recessed, locking telescoping handle. Zippered front accessory pocket and two top-loading end compartments.
This camera really can take a lickin' and keep on clickin'.

I've traveled Europe extensively and there is one thing I know for certain. A handheld GPS is essential for navigating all those one way streets and non-marked roads that are all over Europe (and the US for that matter). We bought this Garmin a few years ago and we love it!
Amazon.com Product Description Navigate both North America and Europe without loading more maps with the affordable nvi 270. This entry-level Personal Travel Assistant makes traveling so simple. For even more mapping options, nvi 250 and nvi 200 offer less map coverage at a lower price. Like all nvi 200-series members, the 270 features an easy-to-use colorful touchscreen and ultra-slim design--perfect for everyday navigation.
My husband recently searched high and low for a great laptop bag and settled on one from Swiss Gear (Wenger). The quality is excellent and it protects his laptop as he travels all over the country. He loves it and I'm sure the graduate will too!
Swiss Gear Computer Backpack: fits most 15"/15.4" widescreens; padded computer pocket;comfort fit back straps; music player pocket; air flow back padding; essentials organizer; headset port; case base stabilizing platform are just a few of the many features.
Laugh. Dance. Graduate. t-shirts from Ellen make great gifts and she has some funny ways to dress them up for the delayed graduate! Some other suggested ideas are things like personalized photo frames and jewelry as well as technology gifts like a ipod speaker or Roku to hook your internet to the TV. The possibilities are endless!
Got one of these heart rate monitors for my husband a few years back. It needs a new battery, but he loved using it when it worked. It tracks all the stats and is idea for runners.
The Suunto T6 Watch's combination of heart rate monitor and altimeter features makes it a top pick of climbers, skiers, personal trainers, and serious endurance athletes. Health Magazine even gave it their Excellence in Fitness Award. This incredibly advanced watch tracks your real-time and average heart rate, altitude, ascent and descent rate, and interval timing. Plug the T6 Watch into your computer with the included USB cable, and the included software helps you analyze your workout or ski day. Don't let all the features scare you. The cell phone style display makes the T6 easy to use and understand. Suunto made the T6 watch for serious athletes who want accurate data for both training and event day.
Give them thousands of books and newspapers that they can download instantly. We've got an e-reader and it really does seem like you are reading a classic paperback book. The display technology is great and I love that you can look up a word instantaneously if you don't know what it means while you are reading the book. Plus it is great for travel...instead of carrying 5 paperbacks with me, I just carry the small kindle with the books loaded on it.
Every college bound student needs a computer so why not turn it into a graduation present?
I got the Logitech remote for my husband for Christmas about 5 years ago. It may have been more for me though because turning those 5 remotes to operate the TV, DVD Player, TIVO, WII and stereo into one easy-to-use remote has both decluttered and saved us from trying to figure what needs to be on/off to make all the electronic items work together!
Flash-drives are always a useful and affordable gift that they will use again and again.
More memory is ALWAYS a good thing!
