If you have a friend, parent, spouse or coworker turning 50, you’ll want to mark that milestone birthday with a nice gift. Sure, there are lots of funky t-shirts and mugs that feature witty sayings about turning 50. Those are fine. Don’t want to do the t-shirt and gag gift idea? Then go more upscale with a gift. It's not hard to find beautiful 50th birthday gifts that are elegant and useable.
For the Bon Vivant
How about cuff links that are made from real Major League baseballs that were used in games, or a pair made of 50th anniversary Legos? How about a set of champagne flutes without stems? These little hand-worked glass beauties are actually dishwasher safe. But they look so elegant. For a bicycle fanatic on your list, why not get her a clock made of bicycle chains and cogs? A lovely set of Slovenian whiskey glasses complete with whiskey stones that you chill and drop in also make a lovely birthday gift.
For the Provider
For the 50 year old in the family who is always taking care of everyone else, give the gift of elegant champagne with flutes. Since champagne is supposed to be chilled to 50 degrees, it’s the perfect choice for a 50th birthday as well. A scented bath collection is a nice looking and smelling gift. Something that might include a bathing bar and candle along with a neck pillow and heavenly scented lotion is a good start. For the chocolate lover, how about a box of gourmet chocolate or chocolate gift that they can't help but indulge in?
For the Adventurer
A bronze globe being held by Atlas, who shouldered the world, is a great gift for a world-traveler. The metallic globe is done in subtle shades of bronze to fit in any home or office setting. Or turn Chinese takeout into an upscale feast with an aluminum takeout holder with chopsticks and holder. You won’t find this anywhere else. A pewter flask with engraved scenes of the outdoors can also make a nice gift. Nothing like a little nip on a cold winter’s day out on an adventure.
For the Romantic
Choose a gift that pampers with a lush robe or wrap. A kimono style done with French seams and lush florals can be a very attractive gift for a woman. Or, choose a specialty pen with a romantic motif. Collector’s quality pens feature designs that take their inspiration from great designers. To go along with that pen, send along a journal that was hand made in Italy. Soft leather holds 200 pages of writing space to chronicle the year ahead.
There are many places online where you can find gifts for those turning 50. You can choose from the higher end, or go with a silly or impulsive gift. What matters most is that you pick your gift based on the recipient’s personality and likes. There’s nothing more satisfying than watching someone open a gift that they really love---and that you’ve spent time picking out. Give the man or woman in your life who’s marking the half century a gift that they will cherish for another 50 years.
