Mix all dry ingredients except gourmet nuts; blend shortening with hands; beat eggs and add to mixture. Add milk gradually and form a ball. Knead and mold dough until smooth. Roll small pieces into 3 inch oblong shapes. Sprinkle tops with chopped nuts. Bake in a moderate oven about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Makes about 3 dozen, depending on the size desired.
