Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease two 9- inch layer cake pans.
Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, allspice and cloves. Cream the butter; gradually beat in the brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add 1 egg at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the sifted ingredients alternately with the sour cream, mixing only until blended. Turn into the pans. Bake 30 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool on a cake rack 10 minutes, then turn out and cool completely.
